I saw the Helen Hitchings exhibition this past weekend. I agree about the polystyrene bricks. It left me feeling quite excluded from the exhibition, like a time-travelling peeping Tom.
But I really liked the blank price/information labels next to each of the works, forcing the viewer to view the artworks rather than read the descriptions.
I was rather taken with the Fairburn printed screen incorporating the Opihi taniwha. That design always gives me the creeps, and I liked seeing it on such a domestic piece. (Don't tell anyone, but Rex Fairburn is my great-uncle, OMG).
I'm intrigued by the Gina Jones stuff - I like art that incorporates light, so I shall check it out.
