If you like movies, quizzes and the Paramount, boy do we have a deal for you!

Are you still in withdrawl from the Film Festival? Are you trying to come up with any reason to head back to the theatre, even if it's just for the ice cream?

Guess what? From this Thursday onwards, the Paramount Theatre is starting a weekly movie quiz "A quiz in 60 minutes" at 9pm in the Paramount Bar.

Movie fans will be invited to take part in this unique and free quiz night to compete for a chance to win a fortnight's free movies for two people and a number of other spot prizes.

“There are a lot of very knowledgeable movie fans out there; we are really looking forward to offering something a bit different. I don’t think any other cinema has done this before in Wellington” say Kate Larkindale, Manager of the Paramount.

“After the success of the film festival this year, we are excited about this quiz night. People will be able to see a movie at after work and then have a drink and stretch their brains for an hour”.

The quiz night will be only 60 minutes long, covering all areas of film, and all decades. Movie quotes, Oscar winners, theme tunes, Movie taglines, actors, directors - it's all in there!

Check out the Paramount website for more information.

I'm so there. When tackling the pub quiz at the Cambridge I only ever do well on the movie categories. Might as well find a quiz that suits me more.

Went along to this last night. Even though my team got thrashed - eighth out of nine teams - it was still great fun. We'll be back next week!

Phil is right, it was totally fun. We (Tom+Amy+Hadyn) came second equal.

I was shocked that there weren't many movie-themed team names though. We were Team Zissou.

:Applauds:!

Hahaha, that is an awesome name!

That was a strange & enjoyable movie.

Given the cast, I thought it odd that William Dafoe gave the funniest performance by far (see also: Gwyneth Paltrow being the funniest in the Royal Tenenbaums - were they by the same director?)

Yup, Wes Anderson.

I don't recommend his latest: The Darjeeling Limited.

However, I do recommend the short film that is a prelude to the film. I think it's called Hotel Chavelier, and it features Natalie Portman

At the Southern Cross quiz last night, one of the questions asked who directed The Royal Tenenbaum.

We knew the answer anyway (cos we are awesome) but it was nice to be reminded of this discussion.

First time I watched that film I spent about 40 min in slack-jawed bewilderment, until something magical happened -- perhaps my alpha cycles locked into phase with the mark-space ratio of the colour waves coming off their costumes or something -- but suddenly it was the funniest, most wonderful thing I'd seen for ages.

But the movie was awful...

Anyone up for the quiz this week?

We're out this week, but back next week.

Be sure to report back on your movie-themed team name though

I had to skip this week as well. I'll definitely be there next and will try to rope a few friends along as well.

I'll be there next week too!

I think I've roped a few friends into coming along with me. Never having met anyone from the Wellingtonista crowd, how will I find you?

You'll know us by our uniforms

And we'll be the ones with the incredibly clever team name

And we'll we wearing a white scarf with a red carnation inside our copies of Albert Camus' "The Stranger" and we'll be drinking black coffee and furrowing our brows.
