The TAWAs: Best Contribution by a Wellingtonian to the Internet (2008)
Here are the nominees for Best Contribution by a Wellingtonian to the Internet (2008)
As a website, we know that we are not alone. There are many other fantastic people in Wellington doing fantastic things online, and they make our internet world a much better place with the things that they do.
Brenda Wallace – http://coffee.geek.nz
If there is something going on in Wellington that involves Linux, Drupal, open-source software, geek women or beer, you can bet that Brenda will be involved in it. As one of the driving forces behind the Girl Geek Dinners, she’s actively working to increase women working in technology. With her championing of open source, she’s building the knowledge base in the world, and with her constant Tweets, she’s keeping Wellington entertained – although we have no idea how she manages to do so much at once
Poneke – http://poneke.wordpress.com
Putting his journalism background to good use, Poneke not only blogs about Wellington issues, but he gets answers from management on things like Snapper teething troubles and under-utilised trolley buses. But he’ll also share his favourite delights of the city, like daffodils on a spring day. Poneke is a champion for all that is good about Wellington (especially if it’s related to buses).
Eye of the Fish – http://eyeofthefish.org/

Many cyber tears were shed when Our Tom ended his Well Urban blog, but the lads at Eye of the Fish stepped up to the mark and cast an intelligent, lively, cynical and celebratory eye over Wellington’s built environment.
Webstock – http://www.webstock.org.nz/blog/
It’s a conference, it’s a series of workshops and mini events and it’s also a big presence on the Wellington web scene. We love Tash and Mike’s interesting and informative posts, which aren’t always about Webstock, proving that corporate-style blogs don’t have to be all about pimping yourself. Add in some very cute regular Twitter updates, and that’s Webstock online. Also, it’s one hell of a beautiful site, and quite honestly we love it when people pay care and attention to all the little things when creating for the web.
The Wellington Flickr group – http://www.flickr.com/groups/wellington/
Over 900 members, over 17,000 photos, and a lively community both online and offline. They get out there on the street and show that there’s more to photographing Wellington than the fern ball.

A heartfelt and humbled thank you for this nomination!
My blog is down, cos i'm moving. :(
When it's back up send us a screen shot so we can add in a pic for you
You are very kind and thank you for the compliment, but at the top of my list of nominations would be your good selves at the Wellingtonista.
Can you not also be a nominee? May I nominate you?
*blush*
Thank you. But we made a decision early on not to nominate any of the Wellingtonistas for any category.
Not to mention that nominees closed aaaaaaaages ago. Sheesh! Doesn't anyone read this site properly?
I probably shouldn't reveal this, but every week at Friday booze o'clock at Wellingtonista Towers, we all sit around voting ourselves #1 most awesomest website evahz. When we just run the Wellingtonista Awards as preemptive karma thing.
The big "plan" behind all of this is to get invited on Dancing with the Stars... I feel we're close.
Ditto wot Poneke said. You guys rock! And Poneke - you too! Many thanks for the nomination. Hope to see you all at the awards night / binge... Or maybe an invite up to Wellingtonista Towers ? It sounds like you guys have an awesome pad.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks Max! I'm not sure if you'd like the design of the Wellingtonsta Towers., because we sacrificed style in order to fit in a walk-in beer cooler, but we will most definitely be clinking glasses with you at the TAWAs. We'll be the really hot ones...
